It also means listening closely when the customer is discussing issues like their tolerance for risk. Often it may mean having a detailed understanding of the customer's industry, markets and business model.

Understand The Transaction

To understand the transaction means to master the small details that are part of the transaction, not just the large issues. Spending the time to understand all aspects of the transaction will ensure that you get the best financial terms offered by the market because the right debt and/or equity sources will have been engaged to provide your financing. It also means that your transaction will close as smoothly as possible.

Perform

Knowing the customer and understanding the transaction are not enough. Being able to translate that knowledge into performance is essential. Knowledge and relationships are the essence of performance.
